SUSCLO aims to drive the material revolution

Our venture, SUSCLO, aims to pursue the sustainable production of garments and make sustainable fabrics increasingly accessible to brands. The apparel industry is the second most polluting sector worldwide, and its negative social and environmental impact is enormous, with raw materials being the biggest contributor.

Recycled and alternative fibres: a matter of accessibility

Recycled and alternative natural fibres can significantly improve the sector’s footprint. Natural fibres like hemp, viscose, tencel, and bamboo are 100% biodegradable, and the percentage of pesticides or fertilizers used is low to non-existent. While raw materials such as cotton and polyester demand 10.000 to 71.000 m3 of water per tonne of fibre, organic and recycled cotton only needs between 390 and 635 m3 of water per tonne.

However, increasing the accessibility to these more sustainable recycled fabrics and alternate regenerative materials is a complex task—and even more so in India.

While India is the largest cotton producer globally, and the availability of raw materials is the country’s competitive advantage, innovative and sustainable fibres availability is relatively low. The country is only just starting to build up expertise in product development, and businesses for sustainable fibres are slowly emerging.

Yet, the market is there. India is the second biggest producer of textiles worldwide, producing 20 billion garment pieces annually. Increasingly, brands are looking for more sustainable options. However, not everyone is eager to deal with the new design and manufacturing skills that these new yarns require.

SUSCLO: bridging the accessibility gap

SUSCLO aims to bridge the gap by connecting brands with new alternative fabrics in our sustainable manufacturing unit. SUSCLO is building the design and production know-how to co-create high-quality garments from innovative materials. As such, we work with brands to realize their collection in India in a most sustainable and transparent way.

Are you ready to create a sustainable change?

Both in India and worldwide, customers and brands are becoming aware of the importance of circularity, and they are starting to get involved in the change process. Despite having sustainable options, the challenges for small-medium brands to adopt such options are significant. With SUSCLO, we will enable these brands to source sustainably, grow their business and ultimately push the apparel sector towards a circular and fair future.
