The Indian Textile & Apparel (T&A) industry is a major environmental polluter & one littered with social inequities. A large number of technological solutions exist for better segregation and recycling of waste, along with a market appetite to adopt them. However, these innovations need an enabling environment to scale the amount of textile waste that they sort and collect. An integrated TWM model is therefore crucial to achieve the circular ambitions of the textile industry.
After a thorough gap analysis of waste management in India, in 2022 we will start testing 3 top-down pilots; potential solutions by prototyping inclusive waste management technologies.
We are currently on the look-out for partners; we are looking for innovations that can create non-woven materials out of poly-blends or low-quality post-consumer waste. Also, we are looking for hotels who want to provide us their waste (old bed linen or towels)

A program co-developed by CAIF and Enviu
This program, co-developed by CAIF and Enviu, aims to design and validate an integrated Textile Waste Management (TWM) model that valorizes textile waste.
It will accomplish this goal by laying the foundation to build and scale green, inclusive enterprises while generating green and sustainable employment for the underserved individuals, groups and communities in the waste ecosystem.
The program aims to achieve a balance between improving the textile and apparel industry’s environmental footprint and delivering social impact through a combination of Enviu’s top-down (scaling green ventures) and CAIF’s bottom-up capacity building, livelihoods generation and creation of grassroots micro-entrepreneurs) approaches.
