Waste To Wow- The Good Felt

The Good Felt, a venture by Enviu based in India, is on a mission to change how we manage textile waste.
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution, with textile waste being a primary concern. It is estimated that the industry generates 92 million tons of textile waste annually, with only 12% of it getting recycled. The company has developed a unique solution that converts post-consumer textile waste into high-quality non-woven fabric sheets.

Tackling Issues-
The fashion industry's problem is that it is known for its fast-paced production and rapid trend cycles. As a result, the industry generates enormous textile waste, which has significant environmental consequences. Textile waste often ends up in landfills, which take years to decompose, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, the production of textiles requires substantial amounts of water, energy, and other resources, which adds to the environmental impact of textile waste. The Good Felt's Solution is to take post-consumer waste often rejected by recyclers including cotton, poly blends, and multi-coloured clothes, and convert them into non-woven fabric sheets. The company's felt sheets are completely recyclable and non-contaminated, making them an eco-friendly alternative to traditional felt.

Collective Approach-
The approach addresses the issue of textile waste and creates a sustainable solution for the textile industry. The Good Felt attributes its success to its partnerships. The company has partnered with a felt manufacturer called KG, a textile recycling centre in Panipat that works with the company in research and development to make premium quality felt. The sourcing partners Hasiru Dala, help TGF to source end of life household textile waste which in turn provides value to the waste pickers.
The Good Felt has formed strategic partnerships with organizations such as H&M in-store waste collection and Fashion for Good, Uptex, and Saahas.

Community and Environmental Impact
The Good Felt's products cater to the premium market, which means that the profit generated from the product can easily be trickled down to the waste workers, and they will get the minimum wage, or rather the living wage, by doing this work. The Good Felt aims to create awareness among people about what's happening to their waste and provide them with a solution.
The company's felt sheets are a source of pride for the community that can convert waste into a final product and make an environmental impact. The Good Felt's approach diverts textile waste from landfills, thereby reducing the environmental impact of textile waste and eradicating all the harmful chemical consequences that come when textile waste goes into landfills.

Adaptability and Scalability-
The Good Felt has the potential to be adapted to various industries and products, making it a versatile solution for waste management. The company intends not to make felt products but to become an ingredient material for different industries and applications, which means they can cater to a huge market that focuses on non-verbal textiles. The Good Felt's solution has the potential to make an impact in thousands of tons and ensure millions of working days.
The company's success is attributed to its partnerships, community that focus on environmental impact, and adaptability and scalability.
